Disability Access Parking
Alabama provides disability access parking placards and license plate decals for individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities, as well as certain organizations that provide transportation for individuals with disabilities.
Temporary Disability
Individuals with a temporary disability may receive a temporary disability access placard.
- Valid for up to six (6) months.
Permanent Disability
For owners of private passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, or RVs (GVWR of 12,000 lbs or less), options include:
- Option 1: One (1) blue decal per vehicle (placed upper-left corner of plate) + one (1) windshield placard per person.
- Option 2: Two (2) windshield placards.
Organizations
Organizations providing transportation for individuals with disabilities may apply for a disability access license plate decal.
Obtaining a Placard or Decal for Someone Else
Power of Attorney is not required for an individual to obtain a placard or decal on behalf of another person, provided that:
- The Disability Parking Application is signed by the individual receiving the disability access placard or decal.
- The application is completed correctly.
- The representative has a copy of the disabled individual's driver's license.
Disability Parking Application
The Disability Parking Application must be properly completed and signed by both the physician and the individual receiving the disability access parking privilege.
